For decades, the healthcare industry in the US heavily relied on traditional paper filing systems to store medical records. However, with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) mandate of 2009, all hospitals came under the obligation to keep medical records of all patients digitally.

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 was the government’s approach to digitalising medical records for easy access to accurate data. In effect, all medical providers (pharmacies, hospitals, clinics and labs) and payers (health insurance companies) were required by law to store patients’ medical records digitally. This mandate was one of the leading factors to me building a health tech digital product centred around users having easy access to their medical records at the tap of a button.

The goal of this project was to create a mobile app that the everyday user would use to quickly retrieve their medical records from the payer (insurance company) and medical providers at any time without stepping foot in a facility. Furthermore, this medical data would be presented in a simple but intuitive form without medical or financial jargon. As a result of this need, user experience received high priority, given that simplicity is critical.

Old but gold
This project is tagged old but gold because it was done in the early stages of my design career and I made some rookie errors 😅  but it still has valuable insights

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
